Appearance
• BUNN NHS – NHS model is made in a combination of black-colored plastic and stainless steel. The quality materials, clean and simple machine body, give a modern appearance to this coffee maker.
• BUNN GRB – when it comes to the appearance, we have to say that in this category, NHS model would win over the GRB model. With a slightly slender machine body and plastic in black color, we have to say that this model looks like a cheap coffee maker.
• BUNN BX – same machine body like the GRB model, just made of stainless steel, it looks modern and unique.
Dimensions
• BUNN NHS – NHS model has the dimensions of 11.6 x 13.7 x 9.1 inches.
• BUNN GRB – GRB model has the dimensions of 14.8 x 7.1 x 13.8 inches.
• BUNN BX – BX model has the dimensions of 15.5 x 8.75 x 14.62 inches.
All these models are similar when it comes to their size. The differences are so small that they are not worthy of mentioning. A few inches won’t change your decision to buy one of them if the model fulfills all the other important things. On the other side, the fact that the water reservoir lid of the NHS model swivels , and the lid of the GRB and BX models lifts up, can affect your decision about coffee makers’ spot on the kitchen counter.
Water reservoir
• BUNN NHS – the water reservoir of NHS model is placed on the top of the brew basket. It is not removable and you can fill it with the carafe since their capacity is the same ( 10 cups ). The capacity of the water reservoir is 50 oz.
• BUNN GRB – has the same position of the water reservoir like the NHS model. Its capacity is 50 oz, and you have to fill it with carafe since it is attached to a machine body.
• BUNN BX – just like the previous two models, has the 50 oz water reservoir attached to a machine body. Carafe can be a good tool for refilling the water reservoir.
Brew time
These three coffee maker models have the same brew time. Since they all have the stainless steel internal hot water tank that keeps water on the optimal brew temperature ( 200 degrees F ), it takes only 3 minutes to brew the whole carafe. There is no option like brew pause or brew delay, cos’ these models are really fast, and you will get a whole batch in just a few minutes. These models can brew from 4 to 10 cups, depending on your needs.
Carafe
All models have the same type of carafe. It is made of glass and not insulated or thermal. This coffee unit has the warm plate so the carafe keeps the coffee warm thanks to it. Its capacity is 10 cups or 50 oz, and the carafe is drip-free. There won’t be any mess when you decide to pour coffee into your cup.
Warm plate
All three models have the porcelain coated warming plate. We already mentioned that these models don’t have a thermal carafe and this warm plate does all the work in keeping coffee warm. This porcelain coated hot plate has the lighted on/off button. With this switch, you can keep the coffee warm as long as you like.
Brew basket
Brew basket is, unlike the internal hot water tank, unfortunately, made in plastic. It is a flat-bottom shaped and you will have to use the paper filters number 4, with the same shape as the brew basket. The Bunn manufacturers produce their own paper filters that you can use with your BUNN coffee maker.
Multi-stream showerhead
This showerhead saturates coffee evenly and the flat bottom-shaped brew basket helps extraction process to be done to the fullest. Every time you wish for it, you are not gonna get a cup of fantastic coffee, but a full carafe in just 3 minutes.
Vacation switch
This is pretty useful when you know you won’t be using coffee maker for a while. Just turn the heat off, and leave the house. Any possible disaster will be eliminated. This coffee maker is created to be in ON mode all the time. That is how you can get hot water whenever you want, and provides you with full 10-cup carafe in just 3 minutes. But if you are leaving for a few days, there is no need for coffee maker to stay in ON mode. It is much safer if you turn it off. Also, the energy consumption won’t be high, no matter how long it is in ON mode.
What are the actual differences?
As you can see, we had separate these three models when we wrote about their appearance and dimensions. The only differences are related to their design, shape, and size. Every other characteristic is the same, and you won’t make a big mistake no matter what model you choose.
Of course, there is a small difference in their price, but that is something that is normal, especially when some models have machine body made of stainless steel and some are made of plastic.
The date of model release is also important, and you would probably expect that new models have some new features, but that is not the case with these BUNN coffee makers. They do look different, but that is the main difference between them.
What about the plastic parts?
The brew basket and the machine body of the BUNN GRB model are all made of plastic. There were some complains that people could scent the smell of burnt plastic after turning this coffee maker on, but that happened only on few occasions. Since the BUNN has a good communication with their customers, these problems are always resolved instantly.
The internal hot water tank worms up the plastic around it as well, and that is the reason for the unpleasant smell in the kitchen. Some customers said that this happened only when they turned on their coffee maker for the first time and that every other time, the machine worked just fine without any accidents with plastic.
Bottom line: Which BUNN Velocity coffee maker to choose?
BUNN’s NHS, GRB, and BX coffee maker models are perfect for every coffee lovers home. We can say that this would be a budget shopping since you get a carafe coffee maker for a reasonable price. They are not difficult in use, they are quick, they don’t take too much space on your kitchen counter, they always have hot water, and the most important, they give you a cup of full-bodied coffee every time you wish for it.
If the release date isn’t the important thing for you, and you don’t care about the look, but your budget is a little bit tight, then you should go with the cheapest one, it won’t make a difference when it comes to a coffee quality.
